Re-read Daniel 1:1-21. What thoughts and questions come to mind as you read?
From a human perspective, Daniel’s plan to eat only vegetables and drink water was a bad strategy. It was a physical disadvantage. Recall a time when has God called you to make a choice that seemed illogical or risky to the world, but was necessary for your spiritual integrity?
Pastor Sam mentioned a quote about seeing our minds as a ‘bad neighborhood.’ How did that idea sit with you? How would you describe your own relationship with your mind? Have you ever felt yourself scared or nervous to be alone with your own thoughts?
Re-Read Romans 12:1-2. Paul says to offer our bodies as a sacrifice, and the result is a renewed mind. Why do you think God links what we do with our physical bodies so closely to how our minds are transformed?
Take a moment to identify one mental “noise" or "numbing agent" you use to avoid your own thoughts. What might be different in your life this week if you were to replace that escape with connection with the Lord?
Jesus' redemption doesn't always mean immediate healing. This is true physically and emotionally. Sometimes it means God providing endurance and perseverance. How does the promise that Jesus endures with you change your perspective of suffering?
