Re-read 1 Samuel 1. What questions and ideas come to mind?
Hannah’s cultural context brought an extra weight to her experience of sorrow and despair. Can you think of some of the cultural expectations you experience that can create the same sorts of sorrow Hannah experienced?
Recall a time when you felt despair. How did God meet you in that time?
How did the people around Hannah (Peninnah, Elkanah, Eli) fail to support her in her time of need? What can we learn from their responses?
What might change in your prayers today if you held nothing back from the Lord?
What would need to change right now for you to be in a place of trust and contentment with the Lord in your circumstances?
