Re-read 1 Samuel 4. What thoughts and questions come to mind as you read?
Israel’s first response to defeat was to bring the Ark to the battlefield. What makes the difference between seeking God’s presence and seeking God’s power as a “rabbit foot”?
God values faithfulness over publicity. How does God allowing the Ark to be captured prove that He isn't worried about His reputation among the Philistines? How does that speak to how you practice your faith today?
Pastor Sam discussed how we often feel the need to "cover up" or "save face" for ourselves or even for God. Why do you think we are so tempted to make ourselves look better than we actually are in church environments?
Pastor Sam said "If you could see how your current sin struggles will affect your great-grandchild, would you fight differently today?” Discuss.
Charles Spurgeon said that you don't defend a lion; you just let it out of the cage. Share an area of your life are you trying to "defend" or "manage" God instead of simply trusting Him?
