Re-read 1 Samuel 10:1-27. What thoughts and questions come to mind as you read?
The sermon mentions several "warning flags" that indicate we might be missing the gospel in our lives (envy of the world, operating from fear, rushing God's timing, depending on people). Which of these resonates most with your current season of life, and why?
Israel wanted a king "like the other nations" even though God had set them apart. In what areas of your life are you tempted to be "just like everyone else" rather than embracing your identity as set apart for God? What makes that temptation so appealing?
The Israelites had "Ebenezers"—monuments reminding them of God's faithfulness—yet still operated from fear. What are the "Ebenezers" in your own story where God has been faithful? How can you actively remember these when facing new fears?
The sermon warns against placing ultimate hope in human leaders, even godly ones. Have you ever experienced disappointment when a spiritual leader or mentor let you down? How did that affect your faith, and what did you learn from it?
Saul literally hid in the luggage when called to leadership. When has God called you to something and you've "hidden" out of fear or insecurity? What would it look like to step out in faith in that area now?
The sermon teaches that "you're not powerful enough to short circuit God's good trajectory for your life." How does this truth bring you comfort? How might it also challenge you to take responsibility for your choices while trusting God's sovereignty?
What was God telling you in this sermon? What are you going to do about it?
