DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR 3/8/26

  1. Re-read 1 Samuel 8:1-22. What thoughts and questions come to mind as you read?

  2. Why do you think the elders of Israel wanted to be "like all the other nations" instead of remaining God's set-apart people? What made that so appealing to them?

  3. The sermon mentioned that God sometimes gives us what we ask for even when it's bad for us, allowing us to face consequences that lead to repentance. Have you experienced this in your own life? What did you learn?

  4. The Israelites wanted a king to "judge us, go out before us, and fight our battles"—exactly what God promised to do. What does this reveal about the human tendency toward idolatry even when God is faithful?

  5. How can we as a Gospel Community encourage each other to live as holy, set-apart people rather than conforming to the world around us?

  6. What was God telling you in this sermon? What are you going to do about it?
