  1. Re-read 1 Samuel 5-7:1. What thoughts and questions come to mind as you read?

  2. The sermon described two categories of idols: sins we love and good things we've made ultimate things. Can you identify examples of each in modern life? What about in your own life?

  3. Read 2 Corinthians 7:8-10. What is the difference between godly sorrow and worldly grief? How can you tell which kind of sorrow you're experiencing?

  4. The sermon stated: "There's a difference between being sorry that you're in trouble and being sorry that you did wrong." Can you share an example (without naming names) where you've seen this distinction play out?

  5. What does it practically look like to "smash an idol" in your life? What steps might be involved?

  6. "You are insufficient to the task of your own righteousness." How does this truth both humble us and free us?

  7. The sermon mentioned baptism, communion, worship, and community as Ebenezers. Which of these has been most meaningful in helping you remember the gospel? Why?

  8. What was God telling you in this sermon? What are you going to do about it?
